Franck Salameh of Boston College: "The Assad regime behind the Sabra and Shatila massacres of 1982"

As soon as the news about Ariel Sharon's death was announced a massive online campaign reopened the file of the Palestinian camps massacres at Sabra and Shatila. The pro-Iranian, Hezbollah, and Muslim Brotherhood networks and their allies in the West blame the Israelis and Sharon in particular. But decades later, Lebanese American historians are rejecting this simplistic assertion. One of these historians, Dr Franck Salameh of Boston College has published a pioneering piece in the History News Network in 2011 that explains clearly that the armed militiamen who perpetrated the killing were commanded by leaders who were the allies of the Syrian regime of Hafez Assad. Not surprising that the massacres were ordered by Assad and his Iranian allies and impute them to Israelis and Lebanese Christians. Not that the latter were exempt of mistakes, but the perpetrators were -as archives have demonstrated for the following 30 years- direct operatives of the Baathist regime in Damascus. Today's massacres perpetrated by the Bashar regime of his own people, are not so different from the type of killings of innocent civilians in these two camps in 1982. Same method, same tactics: massacre and blame others, seize the moment and build the Terrorists' version of history...
