King-Suleiman hold talks

MANAMA: His Majesty King Hamad and Lebanese President Michel Suleiman held official talks last night (Feb 9, 09), in the presence of Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. They reviewed bilateral ties, regional developments and efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.

His Majesty welcomed President Suleiman and hoped that his visit would help bolster bilateral co-operation and co-ordination.

His Majesty directed the reopening of Bahrain's embassy in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

He praised the distinguished Lebanese role in the Arab region and the international arena.

Efforts to stabilise the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip were also discussed. The two sides stressed the importance of pushing forward the peace process, ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the framework of the Arab peace initiative and international resolutions.

His Majesty and President Suleiman underlined the importance of implementing the decisions taken by the Kuwait Summit and achieving Arab reconciliation to deal with the critical conditions facing the nation.

In appreciation of his role His Majesty presented President Suleiman with the Khalifiya Order.

The Lebanese President also presented His Majesty with the National Order of the Cedar in Grand Cordon Class in appreciation of his role in bolstering bilateral ties. His Majesty later held a dinner banquet in honour of the visiting delegation.
