Speaker Nabih Berri has criticized pro-March 8 demonstrators who chanted slogans against President Michel Suleiman on Thursday.

"I didn't feel at ease about the chants against President Michel Suleiman," Berri told An Nahar daily in remarks published Saturday.

The anti-Suleiman slogans "were uncalled for," he added.

Thursday's pro-Gaza protest near the U.S. embassy in Awkar raised fears that the implications of the Israeli war on Gaza have moved to Lebanon.

Berri also told An Nahar he was relieved that Suleiman traveled to Doha to attend the emergency summit on Gaza.
