Washington DC, September 3, 2007RPS Press Release/ -- RPS congratulates the Lebanese people and the Lebanese Army on their victory over Fatah al-Islam in northern Lebanon.

Fatah al-Islam was a terrorist organization developed and nurtured in Damascus, Syria for the sole purpose of threatening Lebanon's democracy led by the government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and the March 14 democratic coalition representing the majority of Lebanese. This win has given due credit to the Lebanese Armed Forces long discounted for their courage and loyalty to a united and strong Lebanon.

The Syrian people and the Syrian opposition congratulates the Lebanese people for their victory. With this courageous act, you have demonstrated to the world that the Lebanese will not stand silent in the face of military adventurism and terrorism run by the reckless behavior of Mr. Assad. The Syrian opposition stands by the Lebanese people in their struggle for independence, sovereignty, and freedom.
