Last week, President Obama  called Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam and offered congratulations for the formation of a new “national unity” government that includes western-backed political groups alongside Iranian-backed armed militias; namely Hezbollah.

While it is one thing, for the President of the United States of America, to silently tolerate a government on which Lebanese politicians-under duress- may accept to avoid bloodshed and military hegemony by a heavily armed and trained Iranian proxy.

Congratulating the Lebanese Premier on harboring in his government a group that has American blood on its hands and that is listed by the State Department as a Terrorist organization is another thing altogether.

This latest action by President Obama can only devastate the hearts of the families of American victims of Hezbollah while legitimizing its hegemony over the people of Lebanon under the power of their weapons and the constant threat of violence.

We call upon President Obama to take corrective action for this presidential blunder and refrain from being complacent in the future with those who are in the business of killing Americans and suppressing freedom and democracy in Lebanon. WCCR, Washington D.C.
