"We need to create safe zones for the Lebanese population"

In an interview on France 24 Professor Walid Phares, advisor to members of congress, said "the two radical forces operating in Lebanon, Hezbollah and the Salafi Jihadists are involved in Syria's civil war, and thus drawing that war into Lebanon. And as the Lebanese state is unable to stop both forces from crossing into Syria and vice versa, the international community must protect Lebanon's civil society and secure the borders between the two countries." Phares added "but this measure may not be enough as we see suicide bombers striking in civilian areas. At this point we need to create safe zones for the Lebanese population away from Hezbollah and the Jihadists controlled areas. Such safe zones will be under the Lebanese army and an international supervision." Phares said members of congress are floating ideas about such measures.
