Future Movement leader Saad Hariri’s press office on Thursday slammed Al-Akhbar newspaper over an article it published entitled “Rafik Hariri in the Israeli lobby.”

The statement issued by Hariri’s press office criticized “the lies that Al-Akhbar newspaper published against everything related to former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, his sons and his political movement.”

“[The article aimed to] damage Rafik Hariri’s image and patriotic reputation, which does not need to be recognized by the likes of Al-Akhbar newspaper and the [party] that is behind it,” the statement said in an implicit reference to Hezbollah.

Hariri’s press office clarified that the article was based on Future bloc MP Bahia Hariri’s inauguration and funding of the Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East in the US think tank The Atlantic Council.

“The newspaper found in it an opportunity to defame a scientific and civilized accomplishment.”
