League of Arab States
His Excellency, Dr. Nabil El Araby
P.O. Box 11642
Cairo, Egypt

RE: Situation in Syria

Dear Dr. Araby:

In light on the atrocities being inflicted on the poor people of Syria at the hands of their brutal dictator, Bashar Assad, The World Council of the Cedars Revolution, feels it is imperative to remind the Arab League of the continuing suffering of the people of Lebanon caused by the same regime. This suffering lasted for nearly thirty years of occupation and resulted in thousands of deaths, political assassinations, detentions of hundreds of Lebanese (who have yet to have been accounted for), near economic collapse and many other destructive actions. The Lebanese are still paying the price of the cancer that is the Baathist Assad regime.

The Arab League has been an outspoken critic of the Assad regime and has been bold in its declaration that Assad must leave Syria and end the bloodshed at once. Further, it has sent monitors to Syria to try and restore peace but has been rebuffed and lied to at every turn. The art of deception and creating problems that only Messrs. Assad, father and son, can solve was perfected during their 30 year reign of terror in Lebanon. The world watches in horror as the casualties mount and Mr. Assad kills and maims with impunity. They mayhem has spilled into Lebanon and threatens the fragile peace that now exists. The cries for help from Lebanon and Syria must be answered.

Therefore, on behalf of the WCCR, I ask that the Arab league insist on an accounting of the hundreds of Lebanese held in Syrian prisons since the '70s, call for the United Nations to fully implement UNSCR 1559, and demand prosecution of Bashar Assad and his regime by the International Criminal Court. Only with increased pressure from the world community and the continuing resolve of both the Lebanese and Syrian people will the nightmare of the Assad regime finally end.

Most Sincerely,

Joe Baini
