Lebanese Ambassador to the UN Nawwaf Salam said in an interview with As-Safir newspaper that Lebanon, as a non-permanent member in the UN Security Council, will reflect the government’s positions on key issues.
He also said that the Ministerial Statement shapes Lebanese politics, adding that the document was a result of reaching consensus in the cabinet and in parliament. Salam denied reports that the council is currently looking into imposing fresh sanctions on Iran for its nuclear program. He added that issuing a resolution regarding Iran’s nuclear drive will be part of a “complex” negotiation process that may be take a long time. “We will take the right stance at the right time based on Lebanon’s interests and internal agreement, taking into consideration the positions of Arab and Islamic states as well as the non-aligned countries,” he added. -NOW Lebanon |
