Israel is bewildered by the news saying that Russia has certified a weapons deal with Syria that provides it with the marine "Yakhont" missiles in the frame of military cooperation between the two countries, where in return, Syria agrees on establishing a new Russian military port.
The Israeli daily Maarev mentioned that the Israeli authorities are worried not only from the missile capabilities but also from the possibility of the missile getting into Hizbullah's hands. "Yakhont" is a sea-to-sea missile that is launched from a warship. It can also be launched from a fighter jet. The missile surpasses the speed of sound and can hit the target accurately from a 300 kilometers distance. It can also hold an explosive head that weighs 200 kilograms.
