Sources at the U.S. embassy in Beirut told Naharnet that Washington maintains its position that the "shape and composition" of the Lebanese government is strictly a Lebanese issue.

"We hope that the current political impasse will be resolved quickly and that Lebanon will form a government in a manner that respects its Constitutional process," the source said.

The source called on "all friends of Lebanon to support the government formation process."

The Hizbullah-led Opposition had accused U.S. Ambassador Michele Sison of making a move to block government formation.
